Educating Women

The most important message that OvaTel has for women is education. Doctors do not always have the means or time to educate each patient on their cycle. This is not due to lack of trying or concern, but more likely due to that most women do not realize the importance of tracking their cycle until they are trying to get pregnant.

The Importance of Cycle Tracking

When it comes to cycle tracking, most women let nature take its course (And time, and own schedule) without any notice. Its only when the topic of conception arises that they start marking up the calendar. While it may seem harmless enough, not tracking their cycle has proven to be dangerous for many women.

The importance lies in preventing devastating health issues over and above just infertility. Often times, illnesses such as ovarian cysts, endometriosis, fibroids, PCOS, and even some cancers can go unnoticed for years. This lets them sit and wreak havoc on a woman’s reproductive system and in some cases her entire body before starting treatment.

When you, as a health care professional, recommend charting menstrual cycles, you are saving a woman many months to years of pain and suffering. You are educating her about how her body is supposed to work, and to notice when it is not working.

What to Chart

MyCycleDiary offers room to chart everything a woman will need to provide you and herself with a comprehensive report of her monthly menses. This chart will allow you to look into her cycles with accuracy and answer all questions immediately.

When it comes to what to chart, that’s easy – chart everything! All of the physical and emotional symptoms are important. This will help you and your patients know what is normal for her and what to expect each month. This way she will know when to report to you if things suddenly change. Your client should be instructed to chart the following each cycle –

When to View a Chart

There are three important times to review or check a woman’s chart –

Every woman should be seen each year by her doctor for an exam of her reproductive organs. An annual exam is the time for most women to talk to their doctors about their periods, concerns, and possible birth control. A patient who has a full copy of their MyCycleDiary with them at the appointment will be able to make the most of her and her doctor’s time. There is no guessing or forgetting. The information is in black and white. You will be able to look for any changes or concerns with ease.

If you have patients that are complaining about cycle changes, this is another reason for them to be seen immediately. You will want to instruct your patient that you will need 3 consecutive cycles reflecting the irregularities to be able to assess the problem effectively. This is because it is very normal for a woman to have at least 2-3 irregular cycles per year.

Once she has charted her cycle for at least 3 cycles in a row, you will then be able to compare what her cycles were like prior to how they have changed. A woman should also make sure to add in her OvaTel information to allow you to see if she is currently ovulating or not.

Charting For Fertility

The most common reason that a woman would be coming to you with her MyCycleDiary is that she is trying to get pregnant and not succeeding. While it is common practice to have a couple try for 12 months before being seen, there are many reasons why a woman may need to be seen sooner. If you client has the following:

Then you will want to see your client long before the 12 month mark. You will be able to know if any of these are of a concern if your client is charting with OvaTel and MyCycleDiary. No woman should be forced to endure a year of infertility or pregnancy loss due to an unspoken rule that she must wait one full year to get help.
